Coachella is one of the most heavily awaited music festivals every year in southern California. Starting this weekend, the 11th, Coachella will host Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, Travis Scott and many more. Each of the previously named artists plan to headline, while other artists will play across 8 stages throughout the day for a total of 144 performances.
At the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, guests can expect an extremely diverse lineup of artists as well as a lot of art spaced around the grounds. Coachella has also been known for its exciting ferris wheel and other attractions, as well as its diverse selection of food vendors. Moreover, artists have routinely put out special merchandise just for fans who come to Coachella.
Focusing back on the music, each weekend features a nearly identical schedule. While guests can expect to see the artist listed (obviously), it’s extremely common to see specific artists bring out special guests based on past and future collaborations. For example, last year, Lana Del Ray added Billie Eilish to her performance and No Doubt welcomed Olivia Rodrigo to share the stage.
While most artists have yet to talk about their plans for their respective performances, Travis Scott told RollingStone, he has been designing an “immersive experience” entitled CatcusCon. What this entails, there are many speculations, but nothing has been pinned down quite yet.
Mia Ritter, freshman, says, “I’m so jealous of anyone who gets to go to Coachella this year because the lineup absolutely rocks!”
Freshman Addison Messinger says, “I think [the scheduled artists] are going to flop.”
To Messinger’s point, people have been overhyping some of these shows since the schedule has been announced, and it is likely that the artists could fall short of these high expectations. There is such a thing as trying too hard or doing too much to get attention on your performance and a lot of the time it works, just possibly not the attention the artist had hoped for.
However, no matter what happens on stage (or off it for that matter), Coachella will definitely be the place to be for the next two weekends. From pop music to rap, Coachella seems to have checked a lot of boxes this year, if not all of them. So even if you can’t get a ride out to Indio, California, it should still be fun to keep up with on social media through creators like Maggie Roberts, SG Lewis, Ellie Thumann and more.
