This year for the All-Star Game they did something different. They had the normal skills competition and dunk contest, and a five on five game .. These games were uninteresting and the players did not try or take it seriously. This year was not much better. Sure, they had a rising stars tournament and all, but it still wasn’t where it should be. People love watching basketball, so how can we make a game with all of the biggest stars in the league as interesting as possible?
The NHL had a new competition this year instead of the all-star game. They had four nations face off. In this new competition Canada, USA, Finland and Sweden entered a four-team tournament. It was a round robin and every team played each other once. Then, the two teams with the best record played each other in the final. Canada and the USA played in the final and Canada won. Freshman Andrew Whitmore says “the four nations face-off was an exciting event between four countries. All four teams had star players from around the NHL including fan favorites to face off in these games.”
The NBA should do something similar with their all-star weekend. They should put the four best teams in basketball (which is currently USA, Canada, France and Serbia) and put them in the same format. This would significantly make the All-Star game more fun and enjoyable.
