Scientists all over the world are urging big companies and governments to take action on climate change before it is too late to reverse the damage. Despite having a plethora of facts to back them up, many believe these scientists are lying.
Climate change has affected people everywhere, including here in Pennsylvania. The increase in severity of hurricanes down in Florida has given heavy rain and floods to the state many times. In August of 2024 Hurricane Debby ripped through Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. The leftover energy of the storm known as a post-tropical depression reached Pennsylvania and caused severe flooding and high winds, especially in the eastern part of the state.
Climate change also affects the temperature in Pennsylvania, which has risen 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit in the last century and, if no significant change is made, a rise of 5.9 degrees Fahrenheit is expected by 2050.
This climb in temperature will make everybody’s lives harder. It will be harder to grow crops causing a rise in price or in more severe cases, famines. As for the actual farmers in the field, you can expect a spike in heat and respiratory deaths among the field workers as well as other outdoor employees like construction workers, landscapers, roof workers and park rangers.
When asked what he thinks about climate change deniers, Mr. Maggs confessed he thinks “they lack critical thinking.”
Sophomore Parker Schroeder stated the believers of this conspiracy don’t “understand the difference between climate and weather.”
