On February second, the most shocking trade in NBA history happened. Luka Doncic, the face of the Dallas mavericks franchise, who had just led the team to an NBA finals appearance, got traded to the lakers. It involved a three way trade between the Lakers, the Mavericks, and the Jazz. So what’s the aftermath of it?
The Lakers received Luka Doncic, Markieff Morris and Maxi Kleber, the Mavericks received Anthony Davis, Max Christe and a 2029 first round pick, and the Jazz received Jalen Hood-Schifino and the Clippers’ 2025 first round pick.
“Trading Luca Doncic would be a massive move, as he’s one of the NBAs best players “sophomore griffin Zimmerman from Hershey says “especially for a washed up Anthony Davis. “This trade shakes things up for both teams” freshman carter smith says.
So who are the winners and losers of the trade and what is the aftermath? It’s fair to say the Mavericks are arguably better with them getting a defensive player of the year candidate and “Big Man” Anthony Davis and have a seriously strong roster despite losing their franchise player. They are also looking to trade for Kevin Durant which would make them dominant contenders. The Lakers’ championship hopes went out the window with them losing their only good big man but gaining their franchise player for the next ten years plus. They got worse this year, but with the addition of a big man they could only get better. To put it in this way, the Lakers are worse now but will be better in the future, while the Mavericks are better now but will be worse in the future.
