For the first time in 10 years, the Penn State Nittany Lions Women’s Volleyball team will be competing for a Nation Championship title.
The Nittany Lions, a number one seed, took on the fellow BIG 10 top seed, Nebraska. Nebraska and Penn State share the 2024 BIG 10 trophy, so there was so much on the line for both teams in this match.
Penn State found themselves down 2-0 going into the third set. Nebraska lost in the National Championship game last year, so the team had quite the chip on their shoulder.
Going into the third set, Penn State began to understand that you go big or home. Penn State rallied back in the final three sets of the match thanks to big-time performer Jess Mruzik and her 26 kills for the Nittany Lions.
Penn State is set to take on Louisville in the National Championship. When Elise Farling, a Lower Dauphin junior, was asked about the topic she said, “I honestly hope Louisville wins, like, I want Louisville to win, but I would be happy with either”.
Life-long Penn State fan Emily Miller said, “I hope Penn State wins, of course, but I honestly haven’t watched volleyball before the postseason this year”.
No matter who wins, a female head coach is guaranteed to take home the gold.
The National Championship match is set for Sunday, December 22nd, at 3pm in Louisville.
