The Penn State Nittany Lions are looking to cap off what has been a historic season with the true cherry on top, a BIG 10 championship win.
Penn State has tallied its first three consecutive 10-win seasons, as well as six 10-win seasons in the last nine years, all of which marks the program’s firsts since joining the BIG 10 in 1993.
Not only has the team as a group had such a successful season, but so did multiple of the Nittany Lion’s big-time players. Tyler Warren, the superstar for Penn State, has set the BIG 10 tight end single-season reception record, Penn State’s all-time tight end receiving touchdown record, and Penn State’s all-time tight end career reception record. Warren was awarded the BIG 10 tight end of the year awards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a specific Nittany Lion received great honors in the BIG 10, with Abdul Carter being awarded BIG 10 Defensive Player of the Year, as well as Defensive Lineman of the Year.
Penn State is appearing in the BIG 10 championship game for the 6th time, their latest appearance being their victory over Wisconsin in 2016.
The Nittany Lions will be playing the highest-ranked team in the country, the Oregon Ducks.
Heading into the matchup, Penn State is ranked third in the country, seeking a first-round College Football Playoff bye. According to ESPN, the 11-1 Nittany Lions have a 53.7% chance of coming out with the win this Saturday, but the game is expected to be extremely close.
“I am honestly really nervous, but overall excited for the game,” says junior Elise Farling. “I hope they win,” added junior Grace Lindsey.
The game will be televised on CBS for an 8 pm start time.
