With Thanksgiving coming around the corner, there’s a lot to be grateful for when being surrounded by family and friends. Sharing what you are grateful for is not just for thanksgiving, but doing so everyday can help one’s own mentally well-being if it’s done by journaling.
So this Thanksgiving, consider journaling about things you are grateful for–not just doing it because Thanksgiving is near, but also writing down what you are grateful for in your life in general.
Journaling has many benefits, such as helping shift your focus from thinking about things that aren’t so great, to acknowledging the positives. Along with other benefits like reducing stress, having a boost of happiness, improving your sleep, improves physical health, and enhances self-awareness.
Here are a few steps to kickstart your gratitude journaling this thanksgiving:
- Start with a piece of paper or a journal
- Write down a few things you are grateful for
- Write a quote that inspires you
- From here, free write whatever comes to mind
Following these couple of steps could help you start journaling, just like that. However, keep in mind whenever you are going to start to journal to be in a place with silence and no distractions. Once you start, you will start to feel very happy and feel at peace with your surroundings.
Eddie Tran, a senior, thoughts on gratitude journaling was, “I think it’s a good way to…keep things in check when you have a bad day.”
Owen Giampetro, a senior, said, “ It is always nice to just take note of the things you can be grateful for, even if you don’t write it down, it helps give you some perspective.”
