Whole Lotta Red artist Playboi Carti has not dropped an album for four years. That may change this Friday, as hinted by a post on Carti’s Instagram story.
Since the release of his universally acclaimed album Whole Lotta Red in 2020, Playboi Carti’s solo music career has been mostly inactive, with the 2024 single All Red being the only solo content released recently. Carti’s inactivity has been criticized by fans, and some have compared the silence to Frank Ocean’s 8 year long “disappearance”. All of this may change, as the Atlanta musician has posted an image that says “NEW CARTI FRIDAY”. Whether this is a single, his rumored I AM MUSIC album, or something entirely different, remains to be seen.
Lower Dauphin students aren’t sure what to expect on Friday. “Honestly, I have no clue what’s in store,” sSaid senior Jasmine Prieto. “His last single drop was slightly disappointing, but I hope that we can all expect something new and different for this drop.”
Senior Lauryn Parcon agrees with Prieto’s uncertainty. “I’m going to say he’s dropping an album because it’s been a hot minute,” she said. “It better be an album.”
We can all hope that something from Carti materializes Friday, but one thing is for sure: we cannot be certain what it is. It could be an album, it could be a single, or even something as small as a merch drop. Carti is just unpredictable like that.
