Whether you’ve seen her on “So You Think You Can Dance”, heard her covers on Youtube, or her original songs on the radio, Tate McRae has grown up in the spotlight.
She is a multi-threat, talented singer, songwriter, and an award-winner dancer. Although McRae’s songwriting and singing abilities have earned her accolades like the Juno Award for Artist of the Year and over 10 billion streams of her original music, she started her career as a successful competition and commercial dancer.
Growing up with her mother as her dance teacher, McRae often spent several hours a day in the studio from a very young age. Featured in prestigious dance shows like “So You Think You Can Dance” and “The Dance Awards”, McRae has been celebrated heavily for her amazing dancing abilities.
“I feel like she gets a lot of praise for her vocals, but her dancing skills are amazing and unlike any performer today,” says sophomore Nina Francis.
This opinion is held by many, with countless fans all over the internet appreciating McRae bringing back performing rather than simply standing and singing. She is compared to performers like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Madonna.
“I like how she puts as much emphasis on dancing as she does singing because I feel like that’s an aspect of pop and performing that gets a lot of misses from modern artists,” says junior Aryam Agili-Shaban.
Overall, McRae being a talented dancer only serves as a positive, and the fact that she even features “dance breaks” on her tours within her songs is a feature from 2000s pop that many fans firmly believe should reappear.
