The Philadelphia Phillies are dancing to their third straight playoff berth after clinching the NL east, their first division title since 2011.
The Phillies won the NL east after a 6-2 win against the Chicago Cubs Monday night. The Phillies are used to postseason berth parties by now, but this one feels different as they clinch the East for the first time in 13 years.
Philadelphia ended the Atlanta Braves six consecutive NL east titles, and are still battling to finish with the league’s best record for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
A wildcard entry being their ticket to the playoffs the previous two years, it is a relief to Phillies fans as their teams also clinched a first-round bye.
The Phillies put together two consecutive long stretches the past two postseasons, but both ended in heartbreak for Philadelphia. The Phillies reached the World Series in 2022, losing in a six game series to the Houston Astros, and losing in a seven game series to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023 in the NL championship series.
Aaron Nola was on the pitching mound for Philadelphia’s East clintching game. Nola is one of the league’s most reliable pitchers, and has been a Philly his entire career after getting his name called in the first round of the 2014 MLB draft.
While the Phillies have already had a historic run going into their last three games of the regular season, Rob Thompsons crew still have plenty to play for against the Washington Nationals as they fight to secure the league and hope to secure home-field advantage in the NL championship series.
When asked about her hopes for the Phillies this postseason, junior Hannah Sanson says that “the Phillies can really do it all this year, and I hope they can finally win the world series”.
Junior Parker Marshall also touched on the topic, saying “I hope they go all the way to the end”.
The Phillies are set to play their final three-game series of the 2024 regular season starting Friday night against the Washington Nationals, and have their eyes set on the 2024 postseason.
