College football is stomping its feet into its fourth week of play in the 2024-2025 campaign, and this weekend will feature some absolute thrillers.
USC will kick off their BIG 10 play against the raining national champs in the Big House of the Michigan Wolverines. Wolverines quarterback Alex Orji is set to make his first career start for Michigan, ready to make a name for himself up north.
“The Michigan USC game is going to be really fun to watch,” says Junior Evelyn Houser.
The number six ranked Tennessee Vols are heading to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the Sooners in a huge SEC matchup. Tennessee has outscored their opponents 191-13 after three weeks of play. The Vols are averaging 63.3 points per game, an absolutely terrifying number to opponents. Number 15 ranked Oklahoma Sooners are defending their home field after starting their season 3-0, but are more than aware of the team walking those same streets Saturday.
Penn State is coming into their matchup against Kent State this weekend just after their bye week. The Nittany Lions dropped two places in the AP top 25 poll this past weekend, currently holding themselves at number ten in the nation. Penn State is expected to manhandle their opponents, but ready to prove themselves after a disappointing performance against Bowling Green. “I hope they can really bounce back after their last game,” says Junior Paige Piermatti.
While there are huge games this week, with many teams expecting to prove themselves to the college football world, there are many eyes locked on the number one ranked Texas Longhorns and their absolutely stacked quarterback room.
Quinn Ewers, a 6’2’’ junior from Southlake, Texas, has started the first three games on the season for the Longhorns. Ewers has brought a lot to the table for the number one ranked team. Ewers has thrown 58/79 for 691 yards and eight touchdowns.
Ewers went down with 12 minutes to play in the second quarter of the Texas vs. UTSA game, and has since then been listed as questionable with an oblique injury.
The Longhorns have two star quarterbacks in their locker room with Ewers and 6’4’’ freshman Arch Manning, who is set to make his first start for the horns.
Manning was the top prospect of the 2023 recruiting class, and put up top of the notch numbers after coming in for Ewers in last week’s play. Manning put five touchdowns on the board for Texas, including a 75 yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo and a 67 yard touchdown run of his own. Manning is even entering Heisman conversations alongside his teammate and mentor of Ewers.
Manning and the Longhorns are 44 point favorites for Saturday’s game
