At the start of a new school year, there are many challenges to face whether you are a freshman who doesn’t really know the way around the school or a senior who has yet to start college applications.
Yet, the most stress any year of high school students could experience are the high school seniors, who need to face whether it’s deciding on a college, choosing where to go, choosing a major and when to do so. Or it could be possible that maybe most seniors have it figured out, however not all do.
There are a lot of factors that come into play when seniors start applying for college, whether cost, if the university has the major they want to go into, or just not knowing what to do. This kind of stress can pile on easily, especially when it’s just the start of school.
Stress can do a lot to the human body, either mentally or physically. Such as can create a person to have anxiety, lack of concentration, or just overall having low energy.
There are a few things that could help relieve stress such as, listening to music, going for a walk, or just doing something you enjoy.
Dylan Kreiss, a senior, said “I find college stressful, 100%. I did my best to take care of searching and applying or at least the majority of it over the summer so that I wouldn’t have to balance it with my course load and activities. To step back and get a break from it I do anything else whether it’s homework or something productive or playing drums or guitar for necessary practice or playing songs I like for fun. I just need my mind to be thinking about something else so that I don’t worry about the future.”
Kate Wallace, a senior, said “It did get a little stressful at times for me, especially when touring different colleges. In my case, I only applied to one place through direct admissions, so I don’t know how complicated the process could have been. I can imagine that applying to a lot of different colleges would get very stressful. It’s hard for me to take a break from thinking about college. But usually, I like to do hobbies I enjoy, like listening to music or playing games. It also helps to reach out to others to talk about what is stressing you out.”
