This past Saturday, September 14th, canopies lined Hummelstown’s Main Street as a cheerful crowd milled around for food, art, and good company.
The Arts Fest was held from 9am to 4pm and brought unprecedented success to vendors, including LDHS representatives.
Food sales seemed to be a popular way to raise money. LD Cheerleading partnered with Bricker’s French fry stand, LD Volleyball fundraised with the Blazing Swine barbeque food truck, LD Softball sold soup, and the LD Alumni Association (along with Tom’s Vegetable Co. of Selinsgrove) sold fried vegetables.
Some groups held activities at their stands while collecting donations. The LDHS Art Honor Society displayed student artwork and offered face painting. The LD Thespian Society managed a booth giving free Oz-themed gift bags to kids under 12 to promote their fall play, Before Oz, and collect donations to fund the costumes.
Junior Srishti Gleeson, treasurer of the LD Thespian Society, says, “We’ve never gotten so much attention at our booth before! We were out of gift bags before noon!”
Many LDHS students, especially those involved in VolunTeen and National Honor Society, used their time to help at booths in need of volunteers.
Hope Millar, a sophomore at LDHS, described her time at the Arts Fest and the “really kind” people she interacted with. “I had so much fun at the Arts Fest! I met lots of LD community members! I felt like everybody enjoyed the Arts Fest and they all looked happy.”
The unmatched accomplishments of this year’s Arts Fest are sure to bring even more excitement to next year’s Arts Fest as our community continues to thrive with artistic energy.
