Water is needed for the human body to function properly as without it we would all die.
It has been said that the human body is mainly 50% to 70% of water. Water can help the body restore lost fluids from sweating, breathing and the process to remove waste from the body.
The real question is: how much water does the human body need?
We have all been told about drinking eight cups of water daily, but this could only be true for some as it depends more on the person’s weight.
To calculate how much water your body needs, you will need your weight multiplying it with 0.5. The amount after it should be your daily water intake in ounces. For example, a person that weighs 130 lbs multiplying that with 0.5 would give that person’s daily water intake to be 65 ounces.
Drinking the right amount of water for the person’s needs can help avoid being dehydrated. Signs that you could be dehydrated includes fatigue, feeling dizzy, a dry mouth and headache.
I asked two students how much water they drink and if they think they drink enough water.
Riley Beers, a sophomore said “I probably drink around 6 cups of water a day. I do not think that this is enough.”
Eliana Carter, a sophomore said “I don’t really drink that much water, probably like half of the amount doctor’s recommend and I don’t think its enough.”
