Heartbreaking news for very sad teens: Boygenius has recently announced that they will be taking a hiatus for the foreseeable future in order to focus on their solo careers.
While rumors had been circulating for quite some time, at a secret show they held in Los Angeles they all confirmed the split.
Boygenius, a musical group consisting of three members: Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus is a widely acclaimed female group who mostly produce music of the indie pop genre. Their most recent album, named “The Record,” won three Grammys, Bridgers winning an additional for her collaboration with SZA and holding the record for the most wins of the night with a total of four Grammys.
Fans were distraught after member Lucy Dacus announced at their secret show that it “would be the last song,” but were quickly alleviated when member Julien Baker clarified that it was a temporary break, and there would be possibilities for new music at a very later date.
Since, lead singer and fan-appointed leader of the band Phoebe Bridgers has deleted many of her posts on social media, and has resorted to mostly posting temporary stories instead of permanent posts.
This leads fans to believe that Bridgers is preparing to release new solo music, as a social media refresh and purge is something that countless artists do in anticipation of announcing new music or content.
“It’s a shame that they are breaking up, but if they all continue making music then it might be better because they can all have their unique styles,” notes junior Jaime Gallick.
“It will be cool to see them blossom into their own artists, and I’m excited to see it even though Boygenius will always have a special place in my heart,” adds junior Addie Whitmeyer.
Overall, although fans are disappointed about the split, it is outweighed by their excitement for the possibility of new music, as each member has demonstrated in previous works that they are just as capable of making amazing solo music as well as their collaborative projects.
