Kanye West has done many notable things within recent memory. He went on multiple anti semitic rants, apologized for those rants, replaced his teeth with titanium fangs, changed the price of his Yeezy products to $20, and most notably, delayed his new album for months. This has changed, however, as West released “Vultures 1” on Feb. 10, 2024.
“Vultures 1” is an album with a length of 56 minutes and is composed of 16 songs. Notable songs include “Stars” (the opening track), “Talking” (which includes West’s daughter, North West) and my personal favorite, “Carnival” (Featuring Rich the Kid and Playboi Carti). “Stars” sets the tone for the rest of the album, while “Talking” gets itself stuck in your head with a catchy chorus. I see “Carnival” as being the standout song from the album, becoming an iconic song along with the likes of “Flashing Lights”, “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1”, “All of the Lights”, and others.
So, what do other LD students think about Kanye’s comeback album? “I would say that it’s good, the best since ‘The Life of Pablo’, although he can be a little antisemitic even though he claims he’s not. Ty Dolla Sign did way better than I thought he would,” says junior Seth Kazinski. “My favorite song is either Problematic or Carnival.” The album received similar praise from junior Jasmine Prieto. “My favorite song is ‘Burn,’” She said. “I think it’s definitely a different album sonically; it’s good but not his best.”
Kanye has definitely had his setbacks, such as losing the public’s good graces and as a result, his billionaire status. However, with his new album surpassing Taylor Swift on the Billboard 100, his reported earnings of $19.3 million from his Yeezy brand releases, and his rumored reunion with Adidas, it seems as though West is staged for a massive comeback.
