This past Sunday, the 24 of February was the 66th annual Grammy awards. Artists like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, SZA, Paramore, and Miley Cyrus took home Grammy awards, with artist Phoebe Bridgers taking home the most with a total of four Grammy awards.
Although fans believe that many of these were a great choice, fans are highly upset by a certain artist not winning anything, and that artist is Lana Del Rey.
Lana Del Rey has been an extremely influential artist for over ten years, with many artists taking inspiration from her. Billie Eilish, an artist who has won nine Grammys has credited Lana Del Rey with influencing her style, same with Olivia Rodrigo, who has won three Grammys in total. Rey was nominated for Album of the Year, and ended up losing to Taylor Swift’s hit album: “Midnights.”
Throughout her career, Rey has received over 11 Grammy nominations but has yet to receive a Grammy and many fans find this nothing short of ridiculous.
“I believe that ‘Let the Light In’ is an amazing song, and she definitely deserves to have won a Grammy for that album,” says junior Jaime Gallick. ‘Let The Light In’ is one of the songs on Rey’s nominated album, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd?”
While nobody doubts Rey’s talent and influence, some aren’t as bothered by her loss at the 2024 Grammys.
Junior Damya Patel states how, “I’m split. I do feel bad, but there was a lot of good competition. I’m not a huge Taylor fan, but I’m not surprised that she won.”
When surveying 50 Lower Dauphin students, approximately fifty percent thought that Lana Del Rey was overrated, and the other fifty percent thought that she deserved praise and recognition for her contributions to the music industry.
Overall, Lana’s influence is undeniable and fans await her new music. Although many are upset about her losses, she will most likely be nominated again in the future.
