Music is a very unique art that can have many genres to it, however, there are a few types of music that can help improve sleep quality.
Along with different types of noises that have been said to also help improve sleep quality, music can also help in falling asleep longer and getting more relaxed.
The types of music that help improve sleep quality are slow, classical and instrumental music. These can help the person’s body relax and unwind before they go to bed, which can help them fall asleep longer and faster. Yet, many people might listen to those kinds of music to fall asleep, and others might listen to music that they enjoy such as pop hits, jazz or another type of music one might enjoy.
Along with music helping improve sleep quality, there are types of noises that can also do that.
One type of noise that can help with sleep quality is white noise, which is a combination of different wavelengths that are of light together. They may sound like the hum of a fan or a hair dryer. They are used to cover up noises from one’s environment.
Another type of noise is brown noise, which is also known as red noise. This type of noise tends to be at lower frequencies and may sound like heavy rainfall or wind. This type of noise has more natural sounds compared to the white noise and is said to help fall into a deeper sleep.
Lastly, another type of noise is pink noise, which is a combination of the white and brown noise. It may sound like gentle rain or a waterfall, and can be described as a softer and quieter noise. It tends to have calming effects that can help people fall asleep and stay asleep.
Freshman Brynn Woodall says that she does not personally use any type of music or noises to fall asleep, and that, “it depends on the type of music, I think instrumental helps more than songs with words.”
“I think it depends on the person. If one has a rough time getting calm at night, then yeah calming music will help,” says senior Vinny Jones.
