New transportation rules are being put into place after all of the bus-riders at Lower Dauphin High School were called to the auditorium on Friday afternoon.
The assembly pulled the students out of their 11th period class and discussed bus etiquette and new information regarding the shuttle buses from the high School to the middle School.
“The purpose of the assembly was to ensure students’ safety on the buses,” says Principal Justin Hanula.
The information presented covered expectations of the student bus-riders, with the main contention being that there needs to be a higher level of respect shown in the school transportation system. While some students agree that this is the main takeaway, others, such as junior Beatrice Yingst, have other opinions.
“It was more technical than behavioral”, says Yingst. “The main focus was telling us which buses to get on to get to the Middle School.”
As the students walked into the auditorium, they were each handed a piece of paper. These papers had both reminders of bus etiquette and updated instructions for which bus to ride from the high school to the middle school.
Two bullet points on the papers read, “RESPECT your driver-they are responsible for your safety” and “RESPECT each other-school rules apply.”
At the bottom of each paper, students were given an assigned shuttle bus to take them to the middle school at the end of the day. Previously, students could ride any of the ten buses that park outside of the high school. Now, students are given specific buses to board depending on the bus that they take to get home.
Regardless of which aspect the students remembered more prominently, the assembly shows that Lower Dauphin is making an effort to improve both organization and respect when arriving to and going from school.
