2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers has been off to an exceptional start this season as he looks to defend his title.
Embiid leads the league in average points per game at 35.1. Embiid is on a 13 game streak of scoring 30 or more points, which not only is a career high but also a franchise record.
Embiid has been averaging 11.8 rebounds per game along with six assists per game.
Embiid has tallied a scary amount of points in the Sixers’ last five games making defenses embarrassed.
In Wednesday night’s win, Embiid dropped a 50-point double-double on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Embiid had 51 points, 12 rebounds and three assists on the night.
In the Sixers’ stomping 135-82 win against the Charlotte Hornets, Embiid put up 42 on his own following a 35 point performance against the Detroit Pistons. It is no secret that Embiid is nearly unstoppable this season.
Throughout his career thus far, Embiid has averaged just about 28 points per game, so 76ers fans are much more than pleased with the big man’s performance this year.
Eva Carlson, a Hershey sophomore says that, “if it wasn’t for Joel, I don’t know if we would ever be above .500”.
As the sixers are on the hunt to grow from their second round exit in the 2023 NBA playoffs, the sixers have a current record of 19-8.
The Sixers stand at the third place spot in the Eastern Conference and fourth place in the league behind the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Milwaukee Bucks.
When asked about if the Sixers are a legit title contender this season, Leigha Snee, a Lower Dauphin sophomore says “I definitely think this team could win it all this season”.
