On Dec. 3, the College Football Committee got together to discuss which four teams would make the College Football Playoff. Many people believe that there was a big mistake made.
The Committee had the responsibility to follow a criteria to select the four teams that will be in the playoffs. Although this year there was a problem, a team that has gone undefeated has never not made the playoffs. On the other hand, the SEC champions also have never been left out of the playoffs. The other three spots in the playoffs were locked in without a doubt, but the fourth spot was still up in the air. The committee decided to give the last spot to the SEC champions, Alabama, over the undefeated Florida State (FSU).
Many experts, analysts, and regular people think that the committee made the right decision by picking the best four teams available, but they also think the picking was unfair because the committee went against the criteria by leaving an undefeated FSU out.
This left the Committee in a bad spot because they had to pick the better team or the team that met all of the criteria. The decision they made, made them receive a lot of backlash. Many people are outraged at the decision and the FSU coach called the situation disgraceful.
Some students at the Lower Dauphin High School weighed in on the situation, this is what senior Evan Wagner had to say, “Yes they were robbed, because they are a 13-0 power 5 team”.
Sophomore Avery Yuncker also shared his thoughts on the decision, he said, “No but yes, I think that they deserved to be in because they went undefeated and won the ACC, but without Jordan Travis I don’t think they are one of the best teams in the nation.”
