The summer of 2023 was the hottest summer on record. The cause is simple, climate change.
This summer was the hottest in history since 1880. According to Nasa, the three months of summer were 0.41 degrees (F) hotter than any summer on record. Out of all three of the months, August was the hottest 2.2 degrees (F) more than the average.
What did this heat affect? Canada and Hawaii were greatly affected by the heat as they had two massive and deadly fires. This heat wave is affecting countries across the world as well as they are met with flash floods and crazy temperatures.
Freshman, Moxin Perry, an athlete, gives feedback on how the summer heat affected him. “It didn’t really affect me at all. I’m pretty good with heat so it didn’t do anything to me,” Perry said. He recommended inside or in the shade as good places to get away from the sun and heat.
Freshman, Mia Zubey, works at Hersheypark and has had the summer heat affect her almost everyday of the summer when she was working. The heat affected her by giving her sunburn and the heat affected others around her by “Causing discomfort and also sunburn.” . A time when she really disliked the heat was “When I was outside and it was very tiring because the sun was hot.” Something that she’ll do next year to prepare for the heat is dress appropriately.
Freshman, Sierra Radnor, was working at an outdoor summer camp for 4 hours every weekday. She thinks that next summer, “The heat next summer will be in the high 90’s and 80’s.”. Radnor also shared that she loves the heat. She also shared a piece of advice for next summer, “Be ready for a hot summer next year.”
