The Sisters’ Hope 3rd annual “Hope Auction” is scheduled for December 3, 2023. But what is the Sisters’ Hope Foundation?
The Sisters’ Hope Foundation, it is a non-profit organization that is trying to find the cure for the disease, Adult Onset Leukoencephalopathy with Axonal Spheroids and Pigmented Glia (ALSP).
ALSP is a rare neurological disease caused by a mutation in the CSF1R Gene. When someone with ALSP has a child, they are born with a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. There is no genetic testing for newborns though, since this disease usually starts when the person is an adult.
Symptoms of this disease include memory problems, seizures, loss of speech, fatigue, muscle spasms, lack of coordination and much more. Since this is a neurological disease, it affects the brain more than the rest of the body.
This organization is run by Heidi Edwards, the President and Founder. She lost both of her sisters, her aunt, her uncle and her mother to this disease.
Heidi’s vision is to create awareness to this disease, fund for further research for this disease, and to support others that have to deal with this rare disease.
The Sisters’ Hope Foundation’s 3rd annual “Hope Auction” will be held on December 3rd, 2023 at the Masonic Lodge (Schuylkill Lodge #138) at 1000 East Market Street, Orwigsburg, PA.
The Sisters’ Hope Foundation has a fundraiser almost every month, so if you want to get involved, go to sistershopefoundation.org to learn more about the foundation and the disease.
