Kevin McCarthy, a republican from the state of California, was the speaker of the house until this Tuesday. The vote was 216-210 in favor of him being removed.
This is the first time in history that the speaker of the house has been removed. This is a very rare occurrence and probably will never happen again due to the fact that the republicans in the house vote in favor of other republicans and vice versa. Although this time some republicans voted against McCarthy.
There is now a question about who will fill his place as the speaker and people have many different speculations and hopes about who might step up and run for the role. As for now the Clerk of the house must fill the role until someone runs for the role.
