Ricky Montgomery, an alt-pop artist, released his newest album, Rick, four days ago. Montgomery has found previous success in recognizable songs like “Line Without a Hook” and “Mr. Loverman”, and is already seeing a lot of positive feedback for his new album.
The album’s lead single, “Boy Toy”, rose in popularity largely due to TikTok. The song now has well over a million streams on Spotify alone.
The album outlines his journey of self-discovery as an artist. Though he admits this journey was painful and difficult, he also recognizes the joy and necessity of it.
“Rick is about my long, awkward path toward remembering myself as an artist. It’s been embarrassing and difficult, but also thrilling–kinda like changing your first name. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted to do but was too scared to try,” Montgomery comments on his new album.
Other prominent songs on the album include “Don’t Say That”, “Eraser”, and “Black Fins”, all of which are layered with deep rich emotional content.
Montgomery plans to venture on his biggest tour to date in 2024, touring across North America for five weeks.
The album title, Rick, references Montgomery’s transition into a more mature light. The album’s 14 songs support the title and idea of the album as a whole, showcasing Montgomery’s poetic style and ability to put difficult feelings into words, captivating listeners across the globe.
