The Libya floods are currently destroying the country. Not only have the eight floods in 11 days left devastation and thousands of people homeless, but they have killed at least 5,000 people already as well as leaving about 10,000 more people missing.
The morgues are overwhelmed because of the thousands of bodies coming in due to these catastrophic floods. People are also racing to bury the bodies that are piling up in the streets throughout the Libyan city of Derna.
The floods have already pushed out more than 30,000 people from their homes in Derna. They are having hard times figuring out where to go even with the help of the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The infrastructure damage has made it extremely difficult for searching parties and groups trying to help those trapped in the rubble to get into the city. The damage has blocked off two out of the seven entries into the city of Derna. Although as these parties and groups continue the search for the nearly 10,000 missing people, the families of the missing are losing hope because the floods keep coming.
All eight of the floods have been created due to Storm Daniel, which is a tropical storm. The floods happened extremely fast, leaving almost no time to escape. They happened so fast because two dams collapsed which decimated everything in its path and washed everything into the ocean.
The floods also hit a little bit of Greece although there was not nearly as much damage or deaths that occurred there.
